ENSICO - Associação para o Ensino da Computação, with the support of the Porto City Council, will start, this October, the teaching of the discipline of Computer Science in three educational establishments in the city.
ENSICO was founded by a group of personalities from the fields of Computer Science and education, together with the DNS.PT Association. Its mission is to promote computational thinking as a pedagogical practice for all students in basic and secondary education, to promote digital literacy and ethics, based on the field of Computer Science.
The Association considers that the teaching of Computer Science will be a vehicle of equity and excellence, promoting scientific and technological literacy and an aggregating and a dynamic element of learning and multidisciplinary approaches. It intends, in 3 years, to contribute to the incorporation of Computer Science in compulsory education, creating in schools the conditions for the fundamental principles of Computer Science to be taught to all students. This initiative, with the participation of Aarhus University, in Denmark, and the Open University, in England, aims at training and improving the digital, computer and pedagogical skills of teachers, covering the whole country.
This initiative was recently distinguished by the European Erasmus + program, emphasizing that the ENSICO project provides EU values to all participants, mainly with regard to supporting the creation of innovative practices in the digital age, through new teaching tools, materials and learning software.
