Portugal's connections with Europe
In the ever-changing world of the Internet, domain registries play a fundamental role in guaranteeing the smooth running of the network and boosting its widespread use. It's in this context that various associations come together to discuss and co-operate in the world of top-level domains. One of these organizations is precisely CENTR, the association of European country code Top Level Domain Registries (ccTLDs), of which .PT is honored to be a member.

With a dynamic organization and more than 50 full members and 8 associate members, CENTR brings together those responsible for more than 80% of all domain names registered in the world. It has become a forum for the discussion of projects and policies affecting ccTLDs. CENTR's effective collaborative spirit lies in its various working groups, which enable collaboration and sharing between counterparts in different areas. Each group addresses a unique set of topics and opportunities, such as: Marketing, Research & Development, Technical, Administrative, Security and Legal and Regulatory, all of which are vital to the domain registry landscape.

Within these groups, I would like to highlight the Administrative Working Group, as this is where some of my work is centered. It addresses a wide range of critical topics, focusing mainly on the day-to-day interactions between Registries and Registrars, ensuring the efficient operation of processes and services. Its scope also includes tackling topics such as implementing administrative processes for domain management, data quality and increasing customer satisfaction. It also monitors trends in the ccTLD industry, making a consistent contribution to improving name administration practices and co-operating in the launch of new products and services.

.PT currently has two staff members who are Vice-Chairs of CENTR's working groups, specifically the Administrative and Legal and Regulatory Working Group. They play a key role in managing budgets, monitoring, and comparing data and trends from the various European ccTLDs and identifying opportunities for cooperation between the various areas, while actively participating in the exchange of knowledge.

Our participation in CENTR is fundamental as it allows us to be at the forefront of best practices in domain registration and management, benefiting all .pt Registrants, Registrars, and partners. By actively participating in CENTR, we not only share our ideas, but also gain valuable knowledge and experience from the wider community of country code top-level domain registries, creating connections with our peers.

At .PT we are committed to ensure a robust and secure online presence for all parties involved and our involvement with the CENTR working groups is just one of the ways in which we contribute to this goal.
