Memorandum: combating piracy and infringement of copyright and related rights online

It has already been signed a Memorandum that will come into action in mid-August and it is a pioneering agreement at European level of self-regulation regarding the protection of copyright and related rights in the digital environment.
It is a joint effort of all entities in Portugal which have a roll in this area: IGAC – Inspeção-Geral das Atividades Culturais, DGC – Direção-Geral do Consumidor, APRITEL – Associação dos Operadores de Telecomunicações, em representação dos operadores de comunicações eletrónicas nacionais, MAPINET – Movimento Cívico Anti Pirataria na Internet, SPA – Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores, AFP – Associação Fonográfica Portuguesa, APEL – Associação Portuguesa de Editores e Livreiros, API – Associação Portuguesa de Imprensa, AUDIOGEST – Associação para a Gestão e Distribuição de Direitos, ASSOFT – Associação Portuguesa de Software, FEVIP – Associação Portuguesa de Defesa de Obras Audiovisuais, GDA - Cooperativa de Gestão dos Direitos dos Artistas, Intérpretes ou Executantes, CRL, GEDIPE – Associação para a Gestão de Direitos de Autor, Produtores e Editores, VISAPRESS – Gestão de Conteúdos dos Media, CRL, APAP – Associação Portuguesa das Agências de Publicidade, Comunicação e Marketing, APAME – Associação Portuguesa das Agências de Meios, APAN - Associação Portuguesa de Anunciantes and DNS.PT - Associação DNS.PT.
In this way, it is a mechanism which enables the streamlined blocking of sites that infringe intellectual property rights. The agreement indicates how it will be done in terms of procedure and institutional flow, as well as the deadlines and procedures to comply.
In parallel, under the jurisdiction of the Observatory On Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, will be released a portal under the domain www.ofertaslegais.pt. Through this portal will be made available to the general public a dynamic list of sites organized by categories, with legal offerings in the areas of music, video games, books, audiovisual and sporting events. The DNS.PT will have the function of providing hosting and support to that domain - www.ofertaslegais.pt - as well as the monitoring of technical developments for the implementation and subsequent management of content and maintenance.
