.PT has joined the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a world-leading organization in the fight against online child sexual abuse. This strategic partnership significantly strengthens .PT's ability to respond proactively to the exposure of CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material) on .pt domains, contributing to a safer digital environment.
Joining the IWF services gives .PT access to tools and expertise that are essential in the fight against CSAM. Among the services available is Domain Alerts, which provides real-time alerts whenever the IWF identifies confirmed images or videos of child sexual abuse hosted on domains under .pt. This is an immediate detection capability, which is essential for swift action to suspend domains and remove illegal content at the request of the authorities, thus minimizing the devastating impact that sharing and hosting such images has on the lives of child abuse survivors. When these situations are identified, .PT is expected to immediately notify the competent authorities, which may involve sending information about the domain holder or removing it at the request of the authorities.
In addition, .PT will benefit from the TLD Hopping List service, which is crucial for combating the common practice of criminals who, after the removal of an abusive domain, register the same name in a different TLD (Top Level Domain) to continue their illegal activities. The IWF identifies domains with a proven history of abuse that have migrated between TLDs, allowing .PT to anticipate and combat these maneuvers, make it more difficult for criminals to exploit legitimate services and protect children and the public from the distribution of criminal child sexual abuse images and videos.
