All the Domains
In All the Names, José Saramago tells us the story of a man who works in a vast archive of names, a Registry Office where the records of millions of lives (and deaths) are stored in silence. One day, driven by an inexplicable curiosity, he decides to uncover the story behind one of those names. What begins as a discreet detour turns into an adventure of discovery and a search for meaning that may never be found.

It is a novel about names, but more than that, it is a novel about what lies behind those very names.

In the digital world, we too work with names. Names that, like ID numbers, correspond to a number—more specifically, an IP. They are domains. And each one represents someone or something: an idea, a company, a project that wants to exist on the web.

Recently, .PT reached the milestone of 2 million registered domains—a vast universe of digital identities that, like Saramago’s archive, represent stories, intentions, and presences.

When someone registers a domain, they are not just securing an address; they are making a statement, saying "I’m here” and I exist.

Behind every name, there is a story, a face, a purpose. Some become well-known brands. Others remain discreet, forgotten, or never even come to be used. But all of them, in their own way, are attempts to exist in a shared space.

And every name, even digital ones, deserves to be remembered.

If you already have your .pt, we want to help ensure it is never forgotten. Tell us your story at www.2milhoes.pt.
